Substation Parts & Field Services for Investor-Owned Utilities

An investor-owned utility runs thousands of substations full of equipment that has outlived the companies that built it. A General Electric LR65 tap changer, a Westinghouse oil breaker, an Allis-Chalmers switch, the original manufacturer stopped supporting most of it years ago. When one arcing contact or one collector ring finally wears out, you are told to replace the whole unit on a multi-year capital schedule. We give you the other option: keep the equipment you already own in service. We machine the worn part to the original specification, or reverse-engineer it from the failed piece when no drawing survives, and our crews install it.

Replacement parts when the OEM stops making them

We manufacture replacement contacts and components for load tap changers, oil circuit breakers, voltage regulators, reclosers, and disconnect switches across the brands an IOU fleet actually carries: General Electric, Westinghouse, Allis-Chalmers, Federal Pacific, McGraw-Edison, Waukesha, Reinhausen, ITE, Siemens, and Moloney. Silver-to-silver contact surfaces, correct base metals, dimensions held to the OEM print. Not a near-fit that overheats in a season.

When the part is discontinued and no drawing exists, we reverse-engineer it from the failed component and machine a replacement that matches form, fit, and function. For Southern States EV2 GOAB switches we go a step further, rebuilding the bearing with a stainless shaft, Viton O-rings, and sealed bearings so the seizure that killed the original does not come back. We also hold the U.S. patent on the UGOR universal gear operator replacement, a drop-in replacement that ends the maintenance-to-seizure cycle of traditional hand operators and, because the slew drive cannot back-drive, takes the handle kickback hazard out of switching.

Field crews for the work that stays in the yard

Not every job ships to Palm Harbor. Our field services division works substations in place across Florida and the Southeast: NETA-aligned acceptance testing on new and rebuilt equipment, interval maintenance testing, protective relay and breaker testing, and full transformer processing. Our Baron vacuum dehydration and hot oil circulation unit dries and de-gasses transformer oil on site, in place, without a drain.

We also handle the physical work: switch and breaker repair, bus and connection repair, transformer moves and elevation, and oil breaker to SF6 replacements. When a substation event will not wait for a maintenance window, our emergency line runs 24/7, with same-day dispatch statewide in Florida and next-day to two-day across the rest of the Southeast.

Already through vendor qualification

Bringing on a new substation vendor usually means a supply-chain review before the first purchase order clears. We have already passed it. Southern Switch is ISNetworld and Avetta approved, SAM registered, Buy American Act compliant, and Made in USA, with an FMEA membership and a U.S. patent to our name. We have supplied utilities since 1982. For an IOU supply-chain group that means we clear most prequalification packets without a lengthy onboarding fight, and your engineers can specify our parts without a sourcing argument.
