South Carolina's grid includes a major investor-owned utility, a neighboring investor-owned utility, and a state-owned utility, plus a statewide cooperative network built around a generation and transmission cooperative and its member distribution co-ops. A neighboring investor-owned utility covers the Central and Lowcountry regions. A state-owned utility serves the coastal and Pee Dee areas directly and also generates and transmits wholesale power to the state's electric cooperatives through a generation and transmission cooperative that supplies 19 member distribution co-ops, covering more than 2 million residents across 46 counties. A statewide trade association stands behind that cooperative network.
The equipment on the Upstate system is the same equipment we've rebuilt in our Palm Harbor shop. A lightning strike burned through the jaw of a 500 kV pantograph disconnect switch elsewhere on that system; our shop machined a replacement jaw and contact assembly from billet aluminum and returned all three phases to service. A generating plant sent us 2,500 linear feet of generator bus bar for stripping, silver replating, and re-insulation, completed inside a two-week outage window. The pantograph switch rebuild and bus bar replating case studies have the detail. It's proof our shop handles the regional fleet's equipment, not just a claim.
