Refurbished, reverse-engineered, or new.

Send us your worn contacts and we refurbish them where the base material is sound. Where it is not, we machine new OEM-spec replacements, and where the OEM part is long gone we reverse-engineer it from a sample, a drawing, or a model number. That is the difference from a catalog seller: we are the shop making the part, not a distributor moving a box. Full LTC rebuild service is available when the whole tap changer needs work, not just the contacts.

Are Westinghouse UTT and UTTB LTC contacts still available?

Yes. The Westinghouse UTT, UTTA, and UTTB are reactance-type load tap changers whose original line the OEM's successor dropped decades ago. Southern Switch machines and reverse-engineers the full contact set in-house in Palm Harbor, FL, so an obsolete part does not end the tap changer.

What is the difference between the UTT, UTTA, and UTTB?

The UTT and UTTA predate the UTTB and share the same transfer-switch operating concept, but they use a different contact geometry, a sliding finger contact assembly rather than the arcing-contact arrangement of the UTTB. We make the contact sets for all three.

Which parts wear out first on a Westinghouse UTTB tap changer?

The arcing contacts. The UTTB is an in-tank, oil-immersed transfer-switch design that interrupts current at the arcing contacts during each tap change, making them the primary wear component and the usual reason a unit comes in for contacts.

Can you refurbish my existing Westinghouse UTT contacts, or only sell new?

Both. We refurbish customer-supplied contacts where the base material is sound, and we machine new OEM-spec replacements where it is not. Either way the parts are made to the original dimensional specification, with material certifications available.
