Air Break Switch Refurbishment and Parts
Group operated air break (GOAB) disconnect switches carry full load current at every switching operation and must open and close cleanly under the conditions found in Florida substation environments: humidity, salt air, thermal cycling, and years between maintenance windows. The Southern States EV2 is the switch most commonly found in Florida utility substations. Its original bearing design uses aluminum housings and standard seals that corrode and seize after years in service, which shows up as stiff or seized operation, increased torque on the gang operator, and contact bounce on closing.
Southern Switch rebuilds EV2 switches with an upgraded bearing assembly that replaces the original aluminum housing with a stainless steel shaft, brass lock nuts, and Viton seals. This combination resists the corrosion and electrolytic attack that degrades the original design in Florida's environment. The refurbished and upgraded switch ships ready to reinstall, with the bearing assembly, rotating contact, and operating linkage all serviced to OEM specification.
The EV-1 rebuild kit covers the contact and hardware components required at the manufacturer's recommended maintenance interval. All parts are machined and assembled at Southern Switch's facility in Palm Harbor, FL and shipped to utilities and substations statewide and nationwide.
