About the Westinghouse URT

The Westinghouse URT is a load tap changer commonly found in utility distribution and power transformers, available in high-amp and low-amp configurations to match different load current ratings. It uses a selector switch, reversing switch, and main arcing contact assembly to regulate voltage under load. The main stationary arcing contact and the selector and reversing moving finger assemblies are the scheduled maintenance items. Replacement at the correct interval prevents arc erosion from progressing to contact welding and tap changer failure.
