Reverse Engineering and Custom Machining
When a part is discontinued, superseded, or simply no longer catalogued by the manufacturer, the transformer or OCB it belongs to does not stop needing it. Southern Switch reverse-engineers and custom-machines components for any manufacturer and any vintage of substation equipment. The starting point can be a worn original part, a dimensional drawing, a manufacturer's model number, or a description from a field technician who knows what the part does but does not have a print.
The ABB breaker gear and GE stop-leak adapter listed here are examples of parts that no longer appear in OEM catalogs. The breaker gear is machined to match the original tooth profile and material specification. The stop-leak adapter is a temporary repair fitting machined to the transformer's fitting thread and size, used to stop an active oil leak at the accessory fitting without pulling the transformer from service.
Custom fabrication orders ship from Palm Harbor, FL with no minimum quantity. Typical turnaround for a reverse-engineered part is 3 to 10 business days depending on complexity and material availability. Southern Switch has reverse-engineered and manufactured replacement parts for utilities, cooperatives, and transformer repair shops since 1982. Call or email with a part description and we will confirm feasibility and provide a quote, usually within one business day.
This catalog is a starting point. We custom-fabricate any broken or OEM-discontinued component, reverse-engineered from a sample, a print, or a model number and machined to OEM spec. Any manufacturer, any vintage, no minimums.
