Voltage Regulator Contact Replacement
Distribution voltage regulators hold system voltage within the tight band that protects customer equipment and satisfies ANSI C84.1 limits. On the General Electric Type VR-1, the reversing switch and the moving and stationary contact assemblies carry every tap change under load, and the contact faces wear with each operation. When contact resistance rises, the regulator runs hotter and regulation drift widens.
Southern Switch machines VR-1 reversing switch, moving, and stationary contacts to OEM dimensional specification in Palm Harbor, FL, and reverse-engineers them from a sample or a print when the part is no longer available. The VR-1 is built in Low, Mid, and High current classes and the contact dimensions differ by class, so we supply each contact to match the current rating on the regulator nameplate. Lead time is confirmed at quote.
Voltage regulator contacts are not a commodity item. Dimensional tolerance on the contact face determines how cleanly the contacts seat at each tap position. Southern Switch has manufactured regulator contacts since 1982 and ships to utilities and cooperatives nationwide.
