Voltage Regulator Contact Replacement

Distribution voltage regulators hold system voltage within the tight band that protects customer equipment and satisfies ANSI C84.1 limits. The GE VR-1 is the most widely deployed single-phase regulator in Florida and across the Southeast, and its moving board and stationary contact assembly are the components that determine whether the unit stays in service or comes out of rotation. Every tap change cycles through those contacts under load, and the contact face wears with each operation. When contact resistance rises, the regulator runs hotter, regulation drift widens, and oil degradation accelerates.

Southern Switch machines VR-1 moving boards and stationary contacts to OEM dimensional specifications in Palm Harbor, FL. Both high-ampere (HA) and low-ampere (LA) configurations are stocked. Refurbished moving boards are rebuilt from original cores with new silver contact faces and restored geometry, and are the cost-effective path when the board itself is in good condition. New stationary contacts ship with no lead time for common configurations.

Voltage regulator contacts are not a commodity item. Dimensional tolerance on the contact face and the spring tension on the finger assembly both affect how cleanly the board seats against the stationary contact at each tap position. Southern Switch has manufactured regulator contacts since 1982 and ships to utilities and cooperatives across the country.
