About the Allis-Chalmers TLS
The Allis-Chalmers TLS is a reactor-type load tap changer sharing design lineage with the TLG but with a different contact geometry, hub assembly, and collector ring arrangement. Like the TLG, it uses a selector and reversing switch to regulate transformer secondary voltage under load without interrupting the circuit. The TLS is found in utility distribution transformers across the Southeast and Midwest, and its collector ring finger contacts and main moving arm assembly are the components that see the most wear at normal maintenance intervals.

Worn or burned tap-changer contacts raise resistance, run hot, and can lead to tap-changer failure. Precision replacements restore reliable switching and extend the service life of the LTC.
