About the Westinghouse UTT/UTTA

The Westinghouse UTT and UTTA are transfer-switch type load tap changers found in a large number of utility distribution and power transformers built from the 1960s through the 1980s. The transfer switch makes and breaks load current through the sliding finger contact assembly while the selector and reversing switches position the next tap. The sliding finger contact assembly, collector ring, and transfer switch stationary contacts are the high-wear components. The silver contact surface erodes with each switching operation, and contact resistance rises when the plating wears through to the copper base. The UTTA is a variant of the UTT with minor design differences; both are fully supported with contacts, kits, and hardware.
